On One Knee In A Tipi ......

Gill & Donna; 3rd October 2006

There are occasions in your life that, in a split second, alter your life. They cause you, or your life, to change and you know you will never be quite the same again.

Gill.......

My 30th Birthday was one such event for me. Don had been planning the occasion for a couple of months unbeknown to me. Her story-telling to keep me off the scent had proved worryingly proficient!! So I found myself not allowed to ask any questions, driving towards Cornwall anticipating our destination to be Cath and Dee’s. That guess proved to be the only correct one for the next two days!

As I drove into the camping field expecting to see a hire tent for us to stay in, there in our usual spot was an 18’ tipi…a proper tipi. When Don led me inside the beauty and magnificence of the interior was overwhelming. Absolutely beautiful, authentic, cosy, comfy and extremely romantic. I couldn’t believe this was all arranged for me and felt very special. I couldn’t wait for dusk to fall to experience the true effect of candles, lanterns and the log fire.

My birthday evening meal was the loveliest surprise of my life. Beforehand I felt quite nervous knowing there was a surprise about to happen, but not having a clue what it might be. The whole evening was unforgettable. I know looking back there will never be a moment to match how special, magical and lovely it was. What meal could ever be more romantic? How could I ever feel more loved and special? When could I ever be happier? This evening truly topped the scale. When Dee and Cath arrived to escort me to dinner (which I still knew nothing about), I was in shock. They looked fantastic in their suits, with red bow ties (which totally suited their fun personalities).

That evening they proved just how much trouble they had gone to get every little detail perfect. They are and always will be regarded by Don and me as the best of friends. They went beyond the call of duty and contributed greatly to the whole occasion. Every time we say ‘thank you’ the words just aren’t enough to show our appreciation of all they did. Truly special people.

Donna.....

Whilst Gill and I were camping at Dee and Cath’s in August, I asked them if they would help me organise Gill’s 30th Birthday celebrations. I was to become their first client in their new venture as civil partnership and celebration organisers. Being friends as well as a client I hoped that they would not feel under too much pressure! I wanted to make Gill’s 30th really special, to make her feel really loved and to show her just how much she means to me.

Something I know that she’s always wanted to do is to stay in a tipi. I wanted to make the occasion a unique, once in a lifetime event and was determined, once I’d set my heart on it, that this was what I was going to do (with a little bit of help!) However 30th birthday plans were not all I had in mind. Gill and I have been together almost seven years, and I was keen to make an honest woman of her! I decided to keep my proposal a complete surprise, and at the end of the birthday meal, a cake with the words ‘Gill will you marry me’ would be brought into our tipi.

The tipi was more beautiful than I could have imagined, adorned with lanterns, throws, cushions, rugs & a warming log fire, to be transformed into a romantic restaurant for two for a sumptuous evening meal.

I want to thank Dee & Cath for the tremendous amount of hard work they put in & the fact that this just wouldn't have happened withut them

The icing on the cake was the DVD of the whole event, produced by Dee & Cath as a surprise, which we've watched almost daily ever since!
